Conservative Karol Nawrocki narrowly won Poland's presidential runoff election, beating Warsaw's liberal mayor, according to the final vote count. Nawrocki was backed by President Trump.

A vote seen as a test of the power of populist nationalism in Europe was too close to call, with exit polls putting the two contenders neck and neck.

Poland and the U.S. are close allies, and there are 10,000 U.S. troops stationed in Poland, but Tusk and his partners in the past have been critical of Trump. Nawrocki, however, has a worldview closely aligned with Trump and his Make America Great Again ethos.
