Hungary's president has signed a law proposed by Prime Minister Viktor Orban's ruling party that will ban LGBTQ+ communities from holding their annual Pride march, defying criticism by human rights organisations that it restricts freedom of assembly.

The amendment was tabled on Monday and adopted on Tuesday. Opposition politicians, the organisers and NGOs have said this was a deprivation of people's rights, a protest was held just a few hours after the amendment was passed.

The law bans the Pride Parade on the grounds that it can be harmful to children. It also stipulates that police can use identification cameras to identify people participating in the parade and fine participants. Orban has always been critical of the LGBTQ+ community and the wider woke and gay agenda.
