The risk of the catastrophic flooding that struck Texas Hill Country as people slept on July 4 and left at least 120 dead was potentially underestimated by federal authorities, according to an ABC News analysis of Federal Emergency Management Agency data, satellite imagery and risk modeling.

US President Donald Trump reassured residents of Kerrville, Texas, that the government would help rebuild after floods hit the central part of the state last week, killing 120 people.

The threat of heavy rain is “slight” for this weekend, but with the ground fully saturated in Kerr County even small amounts of rainfall could cause flooding.

Hundreds prayed, wept and held one another at a Texas prayer service for the 120 people who died in catastrophic flash floods and the many more reported missing.

In Central Texas, from Hunt to Kerrville, residents are sharing signs of hope as the communities continue recovering from the deadly floods on July 4.
