Intel was once the undisputed king of semiconductors, but it lost its competitive edge. Now, a new CEO is making painful choices to right the ship.

A similar wave of layoffs hit the East Valley plant late last year after the struggling chipmaker announced a significant reduction of its workforce worldwide.

Major chipmaker Intel appears to be undergoing another round of layoffs, which are expected to affect nearly 700 workers at its Chandler facility.

Intel is laying off more than four times as many people in Arizona as the company had originally announced last week.

Also, Intel’s 18A process seems to be performing well, with yields reportedly climbing to 55% from 50% in the last quarter.
