ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Protesters launched gasoline bombs and fireworks in clashes with police outside Greece’s parliament late Wednesday, in renewed nationwide protests calling for politicians to be held accountable for a 2023 rail disaster that claimed 57 lives.

The protest, organize​​​​​​​d by the Youth Branch of the Greek Communist Party (KNE), took place in front of Parliament, where demonstrators chanted slogans calling for accountability and the punishment of those responsible, accusing the government of negligence and failing to implement safety measures that could have prevented the disaster.

Hundreds of thousands of people rallied in cities and towns across Greece on Friday to demand justice on the second anniversary of the country’s deadliest-ever train crash, and striking workers grounded flights and halted sea and train transport.
