A measles case has been confirmed in a school-age child from Leander, marking the first case in Williamson County this year.
The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed the case Thursday. Brewster County's top official described it as an 'extremely mild' case in an Alpine man.
The Texas health department reported 722 cases of measles in the state on Tuesday, an increase of four since its last update on Friday.
The Centers for Disease Control has reported in an update that a total of 1,024 cases of the disease across the U.S. and 14 outbreaks had been reported since the beginning of the year
The best way to avoid measles is to get the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The first shot is recommended for children between 12 and 15 months old and the second between 4 and 6 years old.
As of May 20, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has reported 722 cases of measles across the sate, most of which are part of a larger outbreak in the Gaines County area.
