Brevard's school board was set to vote on a policy that would ban the use of all wireless communication devices.

Brevard school board member John Thomas made a motion to reconsider hiring Melissa Calhoun. The motion failed.

Former Brevard County teacher Melissa Calhoun received support from the community at a school board meeting after being dismissed for using a student's preferred name without parental consent.

This comes after she used a student’s preferred name, which violates a state statute that restricts name and pronoun usage unless a student has parental permission.
