U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday Israel would have to make a decision on next steps in Gaza, adding that he did not know what would happen after the collapse of ceasefire and hostage-release negotiations with the Hamas militant group.
U.N. data shows that only less than 8% of 1,718 WFP trucks made it to their destination within Gaza in the nearly ten weeks since Israel lifted its blockade. The rest were looted by "either peacefully by hungry people or forcefully by armed actors during transit," according to the U.N. data.
It was at least the third vessel blocked this year while challenging Israel’s naval blockade and seeking to deliver supplies by sea to a population facing rising starvation.
This might be a tacit admission by the Israelis that they need to do more - but more likely the measures are a response to allies.
