President Donald Trump appeared to crash the winning team’s trophy ceremony at the close of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

President Trump stirred controversy by claiming FIFA gifted him the original Club World Cup trophy, currently in the Oval Office. He joked about renaming soccer to football and surprised Chelsea players by staying on stage during the trophy presentation at the tournament final.

The Club World Cup champions didn't, contrary to online rumors, edit the president from its snap. But critics do think the image choice made a statement.

Trump was right in the middle of the English side’s players as captain Reece James received the trophy and then lifted it above his head. Video appeared to show FIFA President Gianni Infantino gesturing for Trump to leave the players to it, but Trump stayed where he was.
