Yankees demote trade deadline acquisition Jake Bird to Triple-A after latest bullpen implosion
The New York Yankees have sent one of their trade deadline additions to the minors. Right-hander Jake Bird, who came over from the Colorado Rockies prior to last Thursday's deadline, was optioned to Triple-A, the Yankees announced Tuesday. Righty Mark Leiter Jr. is expected to be activated off the injured list in a corresponding move.

Before Thursday’s trade deadline closed, Colorado traded Bird to the Bronx for second baseman Roc Riggio and left-hander Ben Shields. Riggio was the Yankees’ No. 10 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and Shields was their No. 29 prospect.
In exchange for Bird, the Yankees sent the Rockies two prospects: infielder Roc Riggio and right-handed pitcher Ben Shields.
