GameStop launched a bid to purchase eBay in a proposed merger CEO Ryan Cohen believes can transform the companies into a major competitor for Amazon.

Video game retailer GameStop is closing stores across the country, USA TODAY network sites confirm. GameStop did not respond to USA TODAY’s multiple requests for comment, but closures have been reported in states such as Ohio, California, and Alabama.

WASHINGTON — For an entire day, customers can trade "anything" in at GameStop for store credit. The single-day promotion kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 6 and allows customers to trade mostly anything for some money toward merch, video games, consoles and more.
