DFLer Doron Clark was elected to the Minnesota Senate in a special election Tuesday for a heavily blue district covering northeast Minneapolis. The result officially breaks a 33-33 tie between Republicans and Democrats in the Senate.

Dziedzic died following a battle with ovarian cancer at 62 years old. She was first diagnosed with cancer in early 2023 and stepped down as the Minnesota Senate Majority leader last February after learning her cancer had returned. The balance of power in the Minnesota Senate currently stands at a 33-33 tie.

Members of the Democratic National Committee are due to vote Saturday on who will lead the party. After 2024 election, Democrats are regrouping.
