The Houston Health Department is investigating two possible cases of measles. They are not releasing any details about the ages, locations or how the patients may have been infected. These are separate from the two cases reported in January that involved international travel, the health department said those cases have now been closed.

For the first time in years, Americans are in the midst of an outbreak of the measles virus. Earlier this week, an unvaccinated child in Texas was the first person to die from the virus in a decade, and more than 100 people have confirmed infections.

The West Texas measles outbreak continues to see more confirmed cases and, on Wednesday, the outbreak's first death. Weather could play a role.

DALLAS — More than 140 cases of measles have been reported in Texas, including one here in North Texas, and a child in Lubbock has died from the virus, health officials said. The number of cases in the West Texas outbreak increased by 22 when officials released new data Friday, bringing the total to 146.
