The Senate will vote on a measure to block lawmaker pay during government shutdowns as Republicans push multiple bills to prevent future closures.

The federal government remains in a partial shutdown over funding the DHS. As lawmakers return from recess this week, when could a vote take place?

Speaker Mike Johnson's plan to fund the government, endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump, was roundly rejected by the House. Democrats refused to support the bill after Trump and Elon Musk helped to tank its predecessor.

There is still no clear timeline for ending the partial government shutdown, as a bill has to be passed by both the House and the Senate. DHS has been shut down since Feb. 14. The shutdown has continued because Congress remains at odds over how — and under what conditions — to fund DHS.
