When Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot this month, their golden retriever was grievously wounded and had to be euthanized.

Minnesota is honoring the golden retriever named Gilbert belonging to a prominent state lawmaker and her husband who were shot to death in their home.

The veterinarian who worked on the Hortman's dog recalls those moments he was first rushed to the emergency vet.
