Israel has allowed more aid to flow into Gaza, under intense pressure over Palestinians starving to death, but the U.N. says much more is still needed.

The Palestinian death toll in Gaza has passed 60,000. The world’s leading authority on food crises says the “worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out” in the territory of over 2 million people.

JERUSALEM/GAZA, July 27 (Reuters) - Israel on Sunday announced a halt in military operations for 10 hours a day in parts of Gaza and new aid corridors as Jordan and the United Arab Emirates airdropped supplies into the enclave, where images of starving Palestinians have alarmed the world.

The Netherlands banned two high-ranking Israeli officials over the current state of affairs in Gaza and allegations of meddling by Israel in attempts to influence society.

Tsav 9 is the name of a far-right Israeli group whose stated goal is to bring back Israeli hostages by putting pressure on Hamas in Gaza. Its activities include blocking aid supply trucks to Gaza and delegitimizing the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

Trump underscored the importance of securing the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, saying they had suddenly "hardened" up on the issue.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says no one in Gaza is starving: “There is no policy of starvation in Gaza, and there is no starvation in Gaza. We enable humanitarian aid throughout the duration of the war to enter Gaza – otherwise, there would be no Gazans.”

UN aid chief Tom Fletcher says supplies delivered on Sunday during an Israeli military pause in parts of Gaza were "a drop in the ocean".
