President Donald Trump confirmed Monday that Iran attacked a U.S. air base in Qatar in retaliation for America’s weekend strikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities, but he took a notably conciliatory tone toward Tehran in his announcement.

President Trump has indicated that the U.S. was given prior warning of the Iranian strike. U.S. and Qatari authorities said the missiles were intercepted.
