In Bear, the Red Wings are getting a highly skilled and highly competitive winger to add to their prospect stable.

The Wings selected left wing Carter Bear Friday with the 13th pick in the first round of the NHL Draft. Bear (6-foot, 180 pounds), who suffered a partially torn Achilles tendon that ended his season in March, scored 40 goals in 56 games for Everett (WHL). Bear said expects to be ready for training camp.
