Migrants break through border into Spain’s Ceuta, military called in
The Spanish government said it will deploy military units to reinforce police in the North African enclave of Ceuta after migrants broke through the fences into the city from Morocco on Thursday, overwhelming the Guardia Civil police force.
Thousands of migrants have entered the Spanish territory of Ceuta from Morocco, with at least 18 dying in the attempt, prompting local officials to seek help from Spain's national government.
Morocco is blaming a massive surge of migrants into Ceuta on various factors, including "malicious exploitation of digital platforms" and the spread of misleading information.
