Crews made progress Friday containing a 45-acre wildfire that erupted in the eastern reaches of Carlsbad, prompting temporary evacuations as ground and airborne crews worked to douse the flames.

Within about 2 1/2 hours, firefighters had the spread of the flames halted at roughly 45 acres, according to Cal Fire, one of several agencies that battled the blaze. No structural damage or injuries were reported. Crews had the burn zone completely surrounded by firebreaks as of about 3 p.m. Friday, the state agency reported.

Carlsbad police said on social media platform X that crews were responding to a fire in the area of Camino Minero, near Corte Claro and Paseo Encino. The area is not far from Rancho Santa Fe Road, close to the city’s border with San Marcos. Police asked that people avoid the area.
