Outraged residents took to the streets of the southern African nation when a taxi strike descended into chaos.

Violence that erupted during protests this week in Angola sparked by the government's decision to raise the price of fuel killed at least 22 people while more than 1,200 have been arrested, the president's office said Wednesday.

Angola's government said on Wednesday that the death toll from violent protests against a fuel price hike had risen to 22 from the previous day's estimate of four.
