The United States has postponed planned 25 percent tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports by a month, following 11th-hour calls between President Donald Trump and leaders from Canada and Mexico on Monday.

According to President Trump, the tariffs are meant to ensure greater cooperation from countries on stopping illegal immigration and smuggling chemicals used for fentanyl. However, two UW-Eau Claire professors say they can impact American consumers if prices fluctuate with the goods we get from both Mexico and Canada like oil, produce and energy.
