Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite’s first mode, Save the World, will finally be available for free in 2026.
Epic Games made the announcement with a new trailer and blog post. Starting on April 16, 2026, all Fortnite players can experience Save the World. In this game mode, players work together to fight off waves of monsters, building a base to protect themselves from the onslaught.
The original game mode in Fortnite — in which players built a fort and tried to survive the night against a horde of zombies known as Husks — is going free to play after more than eight years. Epic Games announced Wednesday that the mode known as Fortnite: Save the World will become a free-to-play title on April 16.
