Genetic testing company 23andMe isn’t going away, despite declaring bankruptcy. The company and nearly all of its assets, including its biobank of customer genetic samples, have been purchased by American biotechnology company Regeneron Pharmaceuticals for a cool $256 million, the highest bid submitted in the once-hot startup’s bankruptcy auction.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) announced Monday that it has secured the winning bid in the bankruptcy auction for key assets of 23andMe Holding Co. in a $256 million deal to boost its genetics-based drug discovery efforts.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals will acquire embattled DNA testing company 23andMe in a $256 million court-supervised sale, promising to honor existing privacy protections and continue consumer services with no changes.
