Valerie Mahaffey, a prolific actress of film, stage and TV shows including "Young Sheldon" and "Northern Exposure," has died at 71 from cancer.

Valerie Mahaffey, a veteran actress whose myriad TV roles included Northern Exposure (for which she won an Emmy), Desperate Housewives and Young Sheldon, died on Friday after a battle with cancer. She was 71.

Valerie Mahaffey, the Emmy-winning actress best known for her roles in “Northern Exposure,” “Big Sky” and “Young Sheldon,” has died at 71. Mahaffey died Friday following a short battle with cancer, her husband, Joseph Kell, said in a statement.
