The United States continued its pressure campaign against Venezuela on Saturday as President Donald Trump issued a broad directive on social media, warning airlines, pilots and criminal networks to avoid Venezuelan airspace.

Venezuela says the US president's warning that its airspace should be considered closed is illegal.

The phone call is said to have taken place last week – with the pair reportedly discussing a potential summit for face-to-face crunch talks.
