Mississippi is set to carry out its 20th execution by lethal injection as Richard Jordan, who's sat on death row for 48 years, faces death this week.

If the execution is not halted, prayerful protest vigils will start Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. in front of the Governor's Mansion and at 5 p.m. at the Mississippi State Penitentiary also known as Parchman Farm, according to a press release shared by Death Penalty Action to the Clarion Ledger.

The Unites States Supreme Court did not give an explanation in saying would not hear the execution appeal of Richard Jordan of Mississippi.
