The Royals are parting ways with one of their top-paid relievers.

The Philadelphia Phillies took a big risk when they dealt left-hander Matt Strahm to the Kansas City Royals. Eight months later, that decision is vindicated, as the Royals designated Strahm for assignment.

The Royals announced multiple roster moves on Tuesday, including reinstating Bobby Witt Jr. from the injured list.

Matt Strahm allowed a walkoff grand slam to Kody Clemens on Thursday, raising his season ERA to 7.01. It is notable that the Royals didn’t turn to nominal closer Alex Lange in a save situation after he blew Tuesday’s game.

The veteran reliever gave up the go-ahead home run on Friday night, and his comments afterward said a lot about where his season stands.
