A jam-packed weekend of Thoroughbred racing was overshadowed by the news that legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas died peacefully Saturday at age 89 after a career of personal accomplishment and devotion to the industry.

Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, who won the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore seven times, died on Saturday night, his family said.

D. Wayne Lukas set the standard in horse racing. And the sport followed suit. Trainers wanted to be like Wayne.
