Kentucky firefighter Leslie Leatherman answered the call for help when a late-night tornado plowed through his Laurel County community

Officials are hoping to set the record straight that, despite recent cuts, the National Weather Service was not hindered from forecasting this weekend’s deadly storms.

Just before 3 p.m., the Laurel County Fire Department confirmed Maj. Roger Leslie Leatherman was fatally injured while reportedly responding to an potential tornado in the area. He is the second publicly identified victim of Friday’s overnight storms.
