John Oliver said he will not be taking comedy advice from Jay Leno, who suggested late-night comedians are alienating half of their audience with political jokes.

Oliver’s remarks arrive over six years after he ripped Leno’s calls for a return to a bit more “civility” in late night TV, advising “The Tonight Show” host to “go fuck” himself and highlighting his history of relentless jokes aimed at Monica Lewinsky (Leno has since denied that he targeted her on his program).

Oliver's Emmy-winning "Last Week Tonight" is structured around one main segment each week that dives deep into a particular topic. Recent subjects have included juvenile justice, AI and deferred prosecution agreements. Oliver has also tackled segments focused more on politics, and he has been critical of President Donald Trump.
