Two of the most recent individual award winners are the Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain, who won Defensive Player of the Year in 2024, and now, Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche winning his second James Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman.

DENVER (AP) — Cale Makar captured the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman for a second time in four seasons.

Cale Makar took in a round of golf with his friends and ended up taking home the Norris Trophy. The Colorado Avalanche star was at home in Calgary recently and a little more than halfway through golfing, he stopped at his parents’ home. Waiting there was his family and friends, along with the award given to the NHL’s top defenseman.
