Parachuting aid is expensive and inefficient, experts say, noting that at least five people in Gaza were killed in airdrop accidents last year.

Airdrops of food are moving into Gaza as the Israeli military begins a limited pause in fighting to allow the aid to enter the isolated enclave. Israel Defense Forces say it will pause attacks in certain areas for ten hours a day to allow for aid distribution.

Israel’s military announced that airdrops of aid would begin Saturday night in Gaza, and humanitarian corridors will be established for United Nations convoys, after increasing accounts of starvation-related deaths.
